Workers rights
The Rwanda constitution stipulates that everyone has the following rights:
- right to work
- free choice of employment
- favorable condition of work
- protection against unemployement
- social welfare and social justice
- right to protection
- protection against descrimination
- protection against vulnerability
It is because of the need to respect the above rights that social protection and employment policies were developed to be reviewed.
In May 2009, a new
Law No 13/2009 of 27 May 2009 regulating labour in Rwanda was promulgated.
This Law clearly affirms the fundamental rights to employment and labour by including chapters such as
- the prohibition of child labour
- the provision for the protection of workers against violence and harassment
- the prohibition of all forms of discrimination in the erea of employment
- the freedom of expression and the right to and the freedom to form or joint trade unions
